There is so much to consider right now when planning to marry, the Covid-19 pandemic gives couples some difficult choices to make. Western Australian borders are shut and families can not travel to attend a wedding right now.
Lots of couples are choosing to marry as planned but they are reluctant to plan a big wedding with large chunks of their family not attending. Eloping is proving to be a great way to marry now and celebrate with family later.
In essence an elopement is an intimate and personalised wedding with an emphasis on enjoying the experience together rather than facilitating an event for hundreds of people to enjoy.
Eloping is far away from the old school running off with someone never to be seen again. It’s a legally recognised marriage that can be within reason anywhere you want.
Due to the freedom that eloping allows, couples are enjoying epic personalised elopement experiences. Channelling some of the money they have saved for their wedding into a destination elopement with plenty of days ti relax and enjoy either side fo their elopement ceremony.
Sound awesome heh!
Elopements are more about the couple and their kids if they have them. It’s more about creating an awesome experience to celebrate the moment together. A wedding is that too but with the distraction of hundreds of guests to consider.
Just like a wedding an elopement is the commitment of two people in love choosing to start an exciting life together. Nothing different there at all.
Wedding days are getting ready and then spending most of your wedding experience at one venue. Elopement can be part of a longer series of experiences, feeling more like an adventure. You can turn the experience & adventure dial up or down to your liking.
Australian weddings in 2020 on average cost $32,940 and the average cost of a honeymoon is $5000. The cool thing about elopements are that they can be designed and planned around a honeymoon or trip away. This means that you get to tie the knot somewhere you always love to visit or a new place you have always talked about experiencing together.
You’d have to go crazy to reach anywhere near the investment a wedding takes to have a really epic elopement with plenty of time either side to unwind and enjoy.
You don’t have to trek up a mountain to experience an elopement adventure together. The adventure experience part doesn’t have to be when you get married either. It could be before or after. Just have a think about what you both love to do or something you’d love to try. Perhaps I or another photographer could capture that as well in photos to complete the story of your elopement.
Here are some elopement adventure ideas for you;
Enjoy a day exploring nature along the coastal tracks on The Cape To Cape in Margaret River
Try out rock climbing in The South West with stunning coastal backdrops there are half days, full days, lessons, experienced climbing adventures to enjoy
Enjoy a scenic helicopter ride over Margaret River. Perhaps we can arrange for you to land at where your ceremony is. This could be captured with natural photographs, imagine wha an epic story that would be to look back over together and share.
Check out one of the many awesome caves we have in the South West. Just twenty minutes from Margaret River town by car this would be an awesome place to have tour ceremony, or visit after your ceremony and have some truly unique wedding photos taken.
I could go on and on, there are tons of fantastic ideas I have for your elopement in the South West. Have a think about what you love and I am sure I can help you to create an awesome elopement experience.
There are so many external factors surrounding a wedding that ultimately effects your experience. As well as this your wedding day runs to a pre arranged timeline and an order of events.
Weddings are very structured and they need that organisation for them to be awesome. Couples can end up feeling that their wedding day was a blur, there was so much packed into it that it was over way too quickly and they really need their wedding photos to make sense of the day.
Elopements are considerably less stressful and they are planned around what you both would love to do, sleep in? sure why not! Get up early for a morning wedding and relax for the rest of the day together at the resort, by the pool sipping cocktails, hell yeah!
Your elopement will be at the pace you want it to be and for that reason you will never feel stressed or rushed, this allows you both to really appreciate the moment and what the day is about for your futures together. Exciting stuff!
There are so many things that people would love to experience but they are busy or don’t have the money. Eloping wipes out both those reasons not to try some new experience together.
Is there something you have always thought you’d love to try? A place you’d love to visit?
Perhaps that’s chartering a catamaran to take you to Rottnest Island on an adventure? If you do, can I take the photos as they would be epic! and so much fun.
Or perhaps an experience of discovery and adventure in one off the oldest mountain ranges in the world sounds like a great way to frame your elopement. I’d happily travel down to spend more time in that beautiful mountain range and capture your travels.
Elopements are incredibly personalised experiences, the first steps with planning an elopement is thinking about what you would both love to do. Below is a step by step guide;
Where you would love to be for your elopement
Do you have a preference with the time of year you would love to travel
What are some experiences that excite you that you could include in your elopement trip
Once you have some outlines on where, when and how, you can get in touch with me and I can help you to turn your dreams and ideas into reality. I have an awesome elopement team in Margaret River who will create the perfect elopement experience for you.
Once I have an understanding of what you would like, I can put together a package for you or send you recommendations to the vendors who will be able to help you.
You can book me as your photographer separately or within an elopement package.
In some respects hiring an elopement photographer is like hiring an elopement planner as well. Having someone on board to understand your ideas and relate them into a workable timeline will make your loves so much easier.
You have the whole day to have your ceremony which typically will last 20 minutes. So, if photography is important to you, I can help plan your timeline around the best flattering natural light.
The Australian sun is brutal and not the most flattering at certain times of the day, if you are planning your elopement in a beautiful outdoor location, you need to choose the best time of day for light and conditions.
An experienced elopement photographer will be an expert at helping you frame your day around beautiful light, so you have epic photos to look back on and to use to share your exciting news.
Elopements are about sharing awesome experiences together, some elopements are over in two hours whilst others include more experiences and adventures. Whichever way you choose to go, I feel that elopements suit natural photography, photos that combine and tell the story of your day together.
